The fix was pulling up ADB and removing the hidden system bloat Sony (and Google) preinstall with a whole bunch of Android packages. These included things like ad\/promo services, ACR tracking, unused DLNA stacks, and commercial &#8220;hotel mode&#8221; features that have no business running on a home TV.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Prerequisites<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A Windows PC, but a Mac is fine too<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>A USB cable or a shared network connection with the TV<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/developer.android.com\/studio\/releases\/platform-tools\">Android platform-tools<\/a> downloaded and unzipped<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 1: Enable ADB debugging on the TV<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings \u2192 About \u2192 Build<\/strong> and tap it repeatedly until it says &#8220;You are a developer.&#8221;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Go to <strong>Settings \u2192 Device Preferences \u2192 Developer options<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Turn on <strong>USB debugging<\/strong> (or <strong>Network debugging<\/strong> to connect over Wi-Fi instead of a cable).<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Find the TV&#8217;s IP address at <strong>Settings \u2192 Network \u2192 Network status<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 2: Connect from your PC<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Open a terminal in your platform-tools folder:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>.\\adb.exe connect &lt;TV_IP_ADDRESS>:5555<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Accept the debugging prompt on the TV screen, then confirm the connection:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>.\\adb.exe devices<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 3: List installed packages<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">To see everything installed on the TV:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<pre class=\"wp-block-code\"><code>.\\adb.exe shell pm list packages<\/code><\/pre>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Save this output somewhere because this is your &#8220;before&#8221; snapshot. It&#8217;ll be useful to compare the list of packages before and after.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Step 4: Uninstall the bloat<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The safe, reversible method is <code>pm uninstall -k --user 0<\/code>. This removes the app for your user profile without touching the read-only system partition on the TV.
